Christen Plescia

Christen Plescia is a veterinarian who graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. For the last 17 years she has worked in small animal private and emergency practice including ten years of practice ownership. Over the last several years, she has shifted her career to focus on marine mammal conservation, particularly sea otters. In the last 4 years, Christen has been fortunate to gain sea otter rehabilitation and field work experience through the Monterey Bay Aquarium as well as other partner organizations in the Monterey Bay Area. Her experiences working with sea otters drove me to ask further questions regarding nutritional needs for sea otter pups during rehabilitation care and surrogacy. This led her to the MPVM program at UC Davis. Christen is excited to further her sea otter knowledge and continue to give back to a species that she finds so fascinating. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family which includes her husband and two teenage sons, two dogs, two cats, and an assortment of farm animals. Christen's favorite activities include walking the beach, hiking, and traveling. In her down time, she is an avid book reader and can often be found with a cat or dog on her lap.
